What are NOx?

When natural gas or LPG is burned, the nitrogen present in the air combines with oxygen and produces nitrogen oxides (NOx).

These gases:

contribute to air pollution and photochemical smog,

are harmful to health (especially the respiratory system).

What does a Low NOx water heater do?

A water heater with Low NOx technology:

It has an improved burner that mixes the air with the gas better,

It lowers the temperature of the flame, because NOx is mainly formed at very high temperatures,

Thus, it significantly reduces NOx emissions (usually below 56 mg/kWh according to European standards).

Why it matters

In Europe, non-Low NOx appliances are no longer allowed to be sold (due to ErP – Ecodesign regulation).
